Omar Khayyam

Oh, come with old Khayyam, and leave the Wise

to talk; one thing is certain, that Life flies

One thing is certain, and the Rest is Lies

The Flower that once has blown forever dies

Drink! For, once dead, you shall never return!

K

hayyam was a Persian poet, mathematician and astronomer who lived between 1048 and 1131. Actually only famous for one piece of work - his Rubaiyat - what he lacks in quantity he more than makes up for in quality. This one astonishingly rich poem is immortal and has influenced countless others - for example, Rush's Closer To The Heart, and Calvin Russell's Time Flies.
