Rory Gallagher

In the flinty light, it's midnight, and stars collide

Shadows run, in full flight, to run, seek and hide

I'm still not sure what part I play in this shadow play

O

ne of the first Irish musicians to achieve the breakthrough on the world stage, Rory Gallagher was an immensely talented blues/rock guitarist, at first as a member of the group Taste, and later solo. More than a little fond of the glass in his hand, Rory tended to overdo things in that direction, as he recognised himself when he wrote the song Too Much Alcohol (almost a blasphemy within the Church of the Holy Drinkers, but we love our heretics too!). His health declined and in 1995 he was forced to enter hospital for a liver transplant operation; sadly he never came out again.
